4 Easy Ways to Find Joy in Your Job Again
Let’s face it – doing the same thing every day tends to get mundane. Your days get long, sometimes stressful and probably repetitive after awhile. Don’t let yourself get stuck in a rut that leaves you bored, or even unhappy at work.
We’ve decided to let you in on the secret to finding more joy in your work. Here are a few tips to make your days brighter and more enjoyable:
Strive to be the best nurse you can be.
When we are the best versions of ourselves, we are at our happiest. This holds true for any person or occupation.
Elizabeth Scala from Nursing from Within says, “when we live as the best nurse expression of ourselves- our authentic and true selves- we can enjoy every moment of our nursing careers.”1
Live in the present moment and take pride in where you currently are.
It can be disheartening to think of what you haven’t achieved or what you think you’ll never achieve.
Instead, look at how far you have come since being a nursing student.
Take pride is what you have accomplished thus far.
Elizabeth reminds us to “quit comparing yourself to others and take pride in where you are at- right now!”1
Let go of the negative things.
Focusing on the negative aspects of your career can be extremely toxic.
When you hold onto to the negative feelings, they begin to consume you.
“The things we hold onto actually start to take hold of us. When we allow these ‘things’ to grip us with iron clad fists, they hold us back from what we truly want out of work,” Elizabeth states.2
Whether you’re dealing with a coworker you don’t mesh well with or a cranky patient, try to let go of your negative attitudes.
A positive mind equals a positive life!
Focus on what you love about your career.
There is a reason you decided to become a nurse. Remember that this is a job you were excited to have when you were a first-year nursing student.
Try to remember why you wanted to become a nurse in the first place. What about being a nurse do you love?
Once you have an answer to this question, try to keep it at the forefront of your mind. If you go to work everyday reminding yourself why you love nursing, your day will be more enjoyable.
“Bring more joy, appreciation and energy into your work by paying attention to the positive,” Elizabeth suggests.2
Being a nurse is extremely rewarding. Keeping the positive in mind and erasing the negative can remind you of these rewards and can bring more joy into your work.
